The pandemic is real, and no one can deny it! COVID-19 has spread around the globe, and it has resulted in serious loss worldwide. Millions and millions of lives have been affected by the pandemic. But even with so much happening, there is still enough room for some political drama! Here in the United States of America, Dr. Anthony Fauci is making headlines. This time, it isn’t for his medical excellence. Instead, it is for reasons that are far from research and even from the coronavirus.

Who is Dr. Anthony Fauci?

First things first, it is important for you to understand who Dr. Anthony Fauci is. He is a famous infectious disease expert in the United States of America. He has been in this industry for decades, and is a pioneer in Trump’s taskforce against COVID-19.

News about Dr. Fauci

On Friday, Dr. Anthony Fauci made a testimony. The testimony was released before the House Select Subcommittee. It focused on the COVID-19 crisis, which continues to spread rapidly around the world. Additionally, the testimony wrapped up all the high profile “hearings” that happened in the Capitol Hill.

A major take away from Dr. Fauci’s hearing would be the words “cautiously optimistic”. He said that the country will have a vaccine by the end of 2020 or by the start of 2021, and that achieving such results is believed to be optimistic! If anything was to be taken from the Friday testimony, this should be the most important and relevant one—mainly because his timelines are quite precise, and are more inclined with resilience and the ingenuity of mankind. However, the news didn’t end here. There was so much more to hear from Dr. Fauci.

Dr. Fauci and President Trump

Though details about the arrival of the vaccine is promising, it doesn’t bury the rest of the story. Dr. Fauci did share a few inconvenient facts about the current administration. Dr. Fauci quoted that the Trump administration has made changes that have directly saved numerous lives. He also claimed that his role in making a few controversial decisions is “true”. Policies and decisions such as lockdowns were actively promoted by Dr. Fauci and his team.

A Louisiana Republican, Steve Scalise, focused on the above points made by Dr. Fauci. He questioned the expert doctor intensely. Facts like Fauci’s praise for the Trump’s administration’s decision to ban any kind of travel from Europe and China were deeply questioned. In fact, both the democrats and the media bombarded Dr. Fauci with many questions.

Key Take Away from the Testimony

From Dr. Fauci’s statements, it is quite evident that he played a major role in making the decision to ban any travel from China and Europe. Scalise questioned the doctor, “Do you think that decision saved lives?” Scalise was highly inclined to know if the travel ban on China made any difference in how the coronavirus was handled in the country. Dr. Fauci gave a very simple response by saying, “Yes, I do.” He also had a similar opinion on how effective it was to ban any kind of travel from different parts of Europe.

Another crucial decision made under the guidance of Dr. Fauci would be the “15 days to slow down”. The guidelines for these 15 days were prepared and released by the White House. This was one of the first few decisions made by the task force that was put together by President Donald Trump.

To the above guidelines, Dr. Fauci said, “I was very much involved.” He also believes that the decision saved thousands of lives. He confirmed that his team was much involved in extending the lockdown for another 30 days. Once again, the expert stressed that “a lockdown that long” can bring down the rate at which the virus spreads.

Scalise didn’t stop his questions there. He continued to interrogate the doctor, and even quoted, “I know we have heard about a lot of disagreements.” He pondered if the decisions made had involved many talented and respected doctors from many international locations. He also asked whether these decisions were accurate and useful. Again, Dr. Fauci responded with a simple, “Yes.”

To conclude, Scalise questioned if Fauci and President Trump were behind all these agreements — to which Dr. Fauci replied in the affirmative.
