On Wednesday, Fox News host Tucker Carlson railed former second lady Jill Biden on her “doctor” title during his primetime show.
“Doctor Jill needs reading glasses,” the host stated, adding, “Either that, or she’s borderline illiterate.”
Carlson said that there were typos, even in the first paragraph of the introduction. “Doctor Jill can’t write. She can’t really think either.” He commented parts of the dissertation are “essentially pure nonsense.”
Carlson then said, “Jill Biden’s Ph.D. dissertation is our national shame.”
The Fox News host has unleashed on Jill Biden before for her “Doctor” title. In a separate segment, Carlson compared Jill to Dr. Bill Cosby.
Carlson’s comments came after Joseph Epstein’s op-ed, which caused controversies this week. Epstein said Jill should not use “Dr.” as a title since she is a doctor of education and not one with a medical profession.
The host agreed with Epstein and mocked the former second lady, saying she’s “a doctor of education, which means basically nothing.”
“Jill Biden is not a doctor, no. Maybe in the same sense, Dr. Pepper is,” Tucker Carlson mocked. “In 2007, at the age of 55, she got a doctorate in education, so she’s got the same degree as Dr. Bill Cosby.”
Carlson also said Jill has a “status anxiety,” and she decided to cure it with another pointless title.
In the Wall Street Journal, Epstein wrote to Jill Biden, “Any chance you might drop the ‘Dr.’ before your name? ‘Dr. Jill Biden’ sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic.”
Jill is a doctor of education and earned her degree at the University of Delaware. She had a dissertation entitled “Student Retention at the Community College Level: Meeting Students’ Needs.”
Epstein said he was also often addressed as Dr. when he was an editor of the American Scholar. He, however, clarified that he’s not a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Epstein claimed that even scientists called him Dr. He said that calling oneself Dr. is unnecessary in contemporary universities’ social sciences and humanities.
Epstein continued that Ph.D. once held prestige but has diminished over the years due to the relaxation of standards in education outside the sciences. He noted that Biden acquired her Ed.D. recently, or long after the universities’ terror was gone.
He said the prestige of honorary doctorates declined even further. It only used to be once given exclusively to politicians, scholars, artists, and scientists. However, the rich men entered, then TV journalists and entertainers.
“As for your Ed.D., Madame First Lady, hard-earned though it may have been, please consider stowing it, at least in public, at least for now,” Epstein wrote. He asked Jill to forget the small thrill of being called Dr. and settle for the larger thrill of being the First Lady Jill Biden in the next four years.
