During an appearance on David Axelrod’s podcast, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki admitted to discouraging President Joe Biden from answering the media’s questions.
“That is not something we recommend,” Psaki said. “In fact, a lot of times, we say, ‘Don’t take questions,’ you know? But he’s going to do what he’s going to do because he’s the president.”
On Fox Business, former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany spoke out against her successor for making her “advice” to Biden public.
“It certainly seems like the Press Secretary may be calling the shots. She said ‘We encourage him not to take questions.’ And as you know, Biden repeatedly will say, ‘Hey, this got to be last question. I’m going to get in trouble here.’ And you always wonder, well, who’s he going to get in trouble by?” McEnany said. “Seems like the White House press shop.”
“They don’t let him out there for very long, they don’t let him answer questions freely from the press, what are they covering up? I mean, there is a suspicion that he’s tired, that he fumbles, that he’s unfocused. Is that why they’re protecting him?” Host Stuart Varney asked.
“There’s no doubt about it,” McEnany replied. “I mean, anyone who watches him sees that that he has trouble in the free wheeling back and forth and jousting of a White House press briefing.”
“So they’re absolutely trying to control the style that they just feel like does not work for him. And that’s why, you know, this article I reference from The Times said that they’re pacing by and he ends his days usually by five or six p.m. They’re pacing him so he can be in it for the long run, whether that’s the next three years or the next seven years, if he wants a second term,” she added.
“But why don’t they bring on Vice President Harris?” Varney responded. “I mean, she presumably could answer questions. She could be vigorous and dynamic on camera. Why don’t they bring her in?”
“Oh, she doesn’t want to be asked about the border, it’s plain and simple,” McEnany said. “What she’s trying to do is hedge her bets that she will be the next president of the United States following Biden, especially if he doesn’t run for another term.”
“I think they’re manufacturing her appearance to prep her to be the next commander in chief,” she added. “And that means staying away from those press conferences.”
