Here’s How Goodyear Responded To The Backlash

Goodyear, the Tire and Rubber company, has recently responded to what it defined as “some misconception” regarding its employee policies after President Donald Trump urged the people of America to stop purchasing and to boycott this Akron-based tire company — all for not allowing its employees to wear political attires.

The four-paragraph message published by the company was not directed to Trump, but the company has acknowledged the fact that the employees are asked to refrain from expressing their support for any candidate or political party in the workplace.

Recently, the WIBW-TV in Topeka, Kansas has published an article on this issue which was sent by someone purporting to be an employee at a Goodyear Plant. The photo currently circulating in social media features a slide which was made for the diversity training purpose, which shows what is and what isn’t acceptable as part of Goodyear’s zero-tolerance policies. The acceptable part includes “Black Lives Matter (BLM)” and “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride (LGBT)”, while the things listed under non-acceptable are “Blue Lives Matter”, “All Lives Matter”, “MAGA attire”, and “Political Affiliated Slogans or Material”.

Just after this news went viral, President Donald Trump responded on Twitter telling people not to buy Goodyear tires as they announced regarding MAGA hats. It’s better to buy better tires for less price. This is what the radical left democrats do.

In their response to President Trump’s tweet, Goodyear said that they have no link to the picture either, and neither was it a part of their diversity program. Here’s what Goodyear stated in response to the chaos created by the slide’s photo: Recently Goodyear has become the focus of a conversation which has created lots of misconceptions about its policies and the company. For those people who are still unaware of the image which has gone viral and pulled a strong reaction from the people of America, Goodyear would like to provide some crucial input on that particular context to the photo and company’s policies.

The first thing is that the photo in question was not created or distributed by the Goodyear Corporation. Goodyear has zero-tolerance corporate policies against any sort of harassment or discrimination. To keep the workplace free of those, Goodyear always asks its associates to refrain from expressing political support for any candidate or party in the workplace, as well as the similar forms of advocacy that falls outside the scope of racial justice and equity issues.

Secondly, Goodyear strongly appreciates the diverse viewpoints of all of its more than 60,000 associates, which are at the heart of many of the corporate policies created by the organization. Goodyear strongly believes in the fact that when it comes to establishing strong teamwork and building a culture, fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace is important.

Lastly, Goodyear has always wholeheartedly supported both equality and law enforcement, and they will continue to do so. According to a lot of people, Goodyear is an anti-police organization after reacting to the visual. Goodyear has a great amount of respect for the vital work done by the police on behalf of the community.

The irony is that the President’s armored limousine named “The Beast” has customized Goodyear tires.



Recently at the White House, President Trump said that he is not happy with the company and accused Goodyear of playing politics. He even said that he would like to change his limousine’s tires.

Last month, Trump rallied against the “cancel” culture after backlash followed his post about Goya Foods on his social media account.
